Content Tutorial

  1. Logon to the web system using the URL and credentials (username / password combination) provided to you

  2. Go to CONTENT, then to PAGES

  3. All pages are listed in hierarchical fashion. Where a page has further sub-pages, you'll see a caret symbol (sideways facing triangle). Clicking on these will expand the selection to show the child pages.

  4. To add a new page click on ADD NEW CONTENT

  5. In the ADD NEW CONTENT window make sure the CONTENT TYPE field is set to CONTENT.

  6. Enter a TITLE and type the same page title in the MENU TEXT field as well.

  7. Set the PARENT field to be the parent page in the hierarchy. If this new page is to be a top-level page, i.e. you would like it to appear the top of the menu, then just leave this field empty.

  8. Choose “NFAL_Tpl” for the TEMPLATE field.

  9. Enter the main text of your page in the CONTENT field (the larger field). Use the formatting controls in the toolbar above the field to layout and format your text. If you're unsure what a button does, hover your mouse over the button momentarily until you see a “pop-up hint” that explains the button's function.

  10. In the content field you can insert images. There is an INSERT/EDIT IMAGE button in the toolbar (it looks like a tree) that you click on. When you do this a pop-up window appears. Next to the field IMAGE URL is a browse button. Clicking on this will bring up a further pop-up dialog to help you choose the image from the server's collection of images. There may be multiple folders for you to browse through. If you don't see the image you're looking but have it on your local drive, you can click on the BROWSE button at the bottom. This will open a dialog that will allow you to select the image from your local drive. Once you've done this you click on the UPLOAD button, which will initiate the transfer of the image from your computer to the server.
Once the image has been uploaded you can select it in the browser window. You will see the URL to the image in the IMAGE URL field. You should also see a preview of the picture. You should add a title in the TITLE field and you can optionally add a BORDER in the APPEARANCE tab. To finish the operation click on the INSERT button.

  11. In the content field you can also insert hyperlinks to other web pages. To do this you need to type in a text to be displayed. Select that text with the mouse as this will become the hyperlink, as denoted by the underlined blue formatting. Once you've selected the text, click on the INSERT/EDIT HYPERLINK button in the toolbar (looks like a chain link).
You'll see a pop-up window similar to the one you saw when you inserted an image. If you know the hyperlink, e.g. the web address, you can just type it in the LINK URL field and click on INSERT

  12. When you're in the content field you can create a link to a PDF or other type of document. We'll use the example of an NFAL newsletter, but it could also be a membership form or some other document.
As in the previous step you type in the text that is supposed to be displayed. You then select the text with your mouse and click on the INSERT/EDIT HYPERLINK button in the toolbar. The resulting pop-up dialog is identical to the one you saw in the previous step, except that instead of typing in the LINK URL field you will click on the BROWSE button to the right of the LINK URL field.
This will show you a pop-up dialog very similar to the browse dialog you saw in step 10 (selecting an image). You browse through the folders and find the document you'd like to link to. If it is there you just click on it.
If the document does not exist on the server yet, e.g. you created a new NFAL newsletter and have it sitting on your local drive, then you click on the BROWSE... button at the bottom (make sure you navigate to the correct folder before doing this step. For NFAL newsletters it's called “newsletters”). Find the PDF document (you'll be looking at a pop-up showing files on your local drive) and double-click on it. Back in the browse dialog you now click on the UPLOAD button.
After having done this – there may be a slight delay while the document is uploaded – you just click on the document and you'll be returned to the INSERT/EDIT LINK dialog. You'll see that the LINK URL field is now filled in.
All the remains to be done is to click on the INSERT button.

  13. Back in the ADD CONTENT frame you can also click on the OPTIONS tab at the top of the page. On this page you can check or uncheck the ACTIVE field. This is useful if, for example, you're working on a page but it's not ready for the general public yet. You would mark such a page as inactive by virtue of deselecting the ACTIVE field and this would prevent the page from appearing in the menu.

  14. When you've finished editing the page remember to click on the SUBMIT button.

  15. Once you've submitted your changes you will find yourself back in the CURRENT PAGES view.

  16. If you'd like to edit an existing page you simply click on the page name. All the steps outlined for new pages apply here as well.

  17. If you'd like to change the order of the pages you can use the blue upwards and downwards-facing triangles in the MOVE column.
