Being drawn to watercolour painting, Penny decided in the year that she retired from nursing that it was time to take some lessons. In this, she was greatly influenced by her paternal grandmother Lilian, whose lovely watercolours had always hung prominently in her parent’s home.
Penny has had the good fortune to work under some very skilled teachers, in particular Margo Wild, Stuart Beatty, Margaret Roseman, Linda Kemp and Sterling Edwards. Her interpretations encompass a loose and flowing style, with subjects ranging from florals and landscapes to abstracts. More recent experiments with watercolour on canvas have opened up a very different look to her paintings.
Penny’s paintings can be found in private collections in Canada and the Dominican Republic and are showcased in exhibits and art sales in the Ottawa area. Penny and her husband Ed live in Kanata and have two grown children.
